Argentina: Plan to Mint Coins with Milei's Image Revealed

As part of the "$Libra" case investigation, new details have emerged about alleged parallel businesses linked to President Javier Milei's circle, including a project to launch gold and silver coins with his image for commercial and fundraising purposes. According to documents and files recovered from the phone of businessman Mauricio Novelli, the plan involved minting coins with the president's portrait and symbols associated with his political figure, such as the lion and slogans from his movement. This initiative was part of a broader strategy to monetize the presidential image through various products. The project was driven by the firm ICV Advisors, which developed confidential proposals that contemplated not only the creation of gold coins but also the development of merchandise such as clothing, accessories, and other products linked to the President. According to the reconstruction of events accessed by the Argentine News Agency (NA), the plan's promoters held meetings at the Casa Rosada during 2024, managed by Novelli, where foreign entrepreneurs interested in the business participated. Access to these meetings would have been authorized by the Chief of Staff of the Presidency, Karina Milei. In parallel, the documents indicate that the initiative included an international marketing scheme, with the possibility of selling the coins both in Argentina and abroad, and with the intention of generating income from the use of the presidential image. The plan became known through judicial expert reports in the framework of the "$Libra" case, which investigates possible links between private operators and officials in financial projects. The emergence of this initiative added a new element to the file, which seeks to determine if there were maneuvers incompatible with public office or misuse of the presidential investiture.
